According to the suburban journals of greater St. Louis (http://bit.ly/upq37b), the share of the annual harvest program provides the opportunity to donate Missouri hunters of deer to be processed and sent to more than 300 Missouri food bank. Last year, about 5,700 hunters take deer for food banks, providing more than 300,000 pounds of venison.
"It has become a successful program," said Dan Zarlenga, spokesman for the Missouri Department of conservation, the sponsors share the harvest.
The meat produced by the deer hunting season which runs from November to December the ground to make it more flexible for cooking and easier to transport, Zarlenga said.
"What is unique is that the food pantry, usually gotten lots of canned food and dry," he said. "Venison slim and packed with protein. This is something different for people who use it. "
